New Hampshire Cities and Towns
New Hampshire boasts a diverse collection of municipalities among its 200 cities, towns and unincorporated places, ranging from its largest cities of Manchester, Nashua and the capital Concord to the townships of Cambridge, Odell and Success.
The state's municipalities are governed by laws established at Town Meeting and Official Ballot Referenda (for smaller towns) or by City Councils and Boards of Aldermen (for cities).
Some of New Hampshire's cities and towns enjoy a piece of history for a variety of reasons. Franconia Notch was home to the rock formation "Old Man of the Mountain" until its demise in May 2003. Peterborough is the model for the fictional town of Grover's Corners in Thornton Wilder's play, "Our Town." Charlestown is home to the reconstructed Fort at Number 4 from the mid-1700s. And Dixville Notch (population 75) is known for being the site of the first presidential primary ballot cast every four years.
From the famous "Moose Alley" in Pittsburgh to Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth to President Franklin Pierce's birthplace in Hillsboro to New Hampshire International Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire's cities and towns appeal to a wide range of interests.
